How do people experience a fragrance? A laboratory in Barcelona investigated this question.
A fragrance first affects perception. This is precisely where an exploratory study conducted by the neuroscientific institute Starlab Barcelona with the TPdeux composition comes in.
One Question, One Lab
The study did not investigate whether a fragrance "does something," but rather how people experience it in the moment—accompanied by measurements of brain and heart activity.
The Setup
Fifteen participants experienced two conditions in random order: the TPdeux composition and pure water vapor as a control. During this, researchers recorded brain activity via a 19-channel EEG and heart activity (ECG). Subjective feelings were also assessed.

What Was Revealed
Under the TPdeux condition, researchers observed increased activity in several EEG frequency bands. Participants described their state as relaxed yet alert, with inward-directed attention—an image that reminded the authors of observations from meditation research. Heart rate did not differ significantly between the conditions.

What the Study Does Not Say
Honesty is important: This was an exploratory study with a small group of fifteen individuals. Observations regarding mood and well-being showed trends, not statistically significant effects. Health-related claims cannot be derived from this—nor are they intended here.
Frequently Asked Questions
Was TP2 medically tested?
No. The study was an exploratory neuroscientific investigation of fragrance experience, not a clinical efficacy study.
How many people participated?
Fifteen. A small group—the observations should be read with corresponding caution.
What does "exploratory" mean?
That the study gathers initial insights and opens questions, rather than providing conclusive proof.
